Customer demand for Windows Vista this quarter continued to build with double-digit growth in multiyear agreements by businesses and with the vast majority of consumers purchasing premium editions, said Kevin Johnson, president of the platform and services division at Microsoft.

You would have thought that the launch of Halo 3 for XBOX 360 would have been a bigger success story, considering all the grumbling, whining, snooching, and bleeping from various corners of the technosphere about Vista.

But when Microsoft has turned in good looking Q1 numbers, it's still technically true to say that Vista "helped."

Much has been made of the simultaneous launch of Windows Vista and Microsoft Office, but even more noteworthy is the fact that both the legit and counterfit versions of Vista shipped on the same day.

I don't know if this represents a new High or a new Low in technology. Maybe it's an example of market efficiencies, or true vertical integration.

Inquirer.net: Microsoft Vista cracked. The whole cycle starts again

DESPITE Microsoft's anti-piracy measures, cracked copies of its Vista operating system are already available on torrent sites, it's claimed.
One cracked version is called VistaBillGates and comes with a product key, and an "activation crack" that bypasses Vole's activation process.
Apparently Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise Edition has also been cracked. So far Microsoft has refused to comment about hacks, but claims it is working hard to stop pirates.
Apparently the weapon it will use is software that deactivates pirated copies of Windows Vista by sending a patch through Windows Update that can invalidate certain product keys.
No doubt the pirates have already worked their way around that one and it will only be countless legitimate Vista users who will find themselves suffering in the crossfire between Vole and the pirates.

Yes, well, nobody saw that coming, did they?

Microsoft will ship Vista, this time for sure!

Microsoft's Vista, which had its launch dates confirmed last week, is now completed, reports AP.
Microsoft said Wednesday it has completed work on its long-delayed Windows Vista operating system and plans to release it to consumers Jan. 30.
The announcement means Microsoft is on track to meet its revised release schedule.
The business version of Vista will be available on Nov. 30.

Quentin Tarrentino once repeated the adage that "Directors never finish their films, they abandon them." I suspect the same holds true for software. Just as the Director may say "Don't worry, we'll clean it up in Post-Production" so can I imagine the Team Leaders at Microsoft saying "Screw it, we'll clean it up with patches and updates."
