CBS aquires video blog Wallstrip for $5 million

I heard the rumblings in the blogosphere last week, but today it was confirmed.

Dealbreaker: It’s Official: CBS Picks Up WallStrip

CBS Interactive today announced the acquisition of Wallstrip, an online property that produces and syndicates a daily webshow focused on financial news. The acquisition was first referenced in Wallstrip’s program this morning. While Wallstrip will maintain a separate identity, the Wallstrip team will work with CBS Interactive to build original web and mobile-based content and community."CBS recognizes that original web content — whether it’s news, sports or entertainment - is starting to show real traction with audiences, producers and advertisers," said Quincy Smith, President, CBS Interactive. "As CBS evolves from a content company into an audience company, we need to build a team of talented web producers who ‘get’ the growing online demand."

My mission is clear: I need to find a perky actress who can deadpan scathing witticisms about Blu-ray, immediately.

So let me get this straight -

CBS pays Wallstrip money so they can work together and the first thing Wallstrip does is go out and make CBS look stupid - not that that was particularly hard to do - and the "boss" of CBS is in on it! This is the most original stuff CBS has produced in ages.

As Yakov Smirnoff would say, "What a country!"

Yes, Lee! Go for it! Then I can get a gig working for you as a staff writer, only let's aim higher. NBC, OK? I want to meet Hiro!
