This Week In Marketnews: 99 Red Baluns

Marketnews: Custom Corner: Baluns for Beginners

Christine Persaud, my editor at Marketnews didn't use an accompanying graphic this week, which is unusual for her. My guess is that it's because baluns just aren't very exciting.

Really, look at that Niles A/V plate above: it doesn't exactly make your heart race, even if you're a propellerhead. Regardless, they're important.

Au contraire, Lee. I was just waiting for my lovely assistant to work her Photoshop wonders. An image now accompanies the article!

I see that now, and what a great job they did too!

I love baluns.

From a radio geek perspective, look at the difference in the signal patterns at the bottom of page 20.

Unbalanced lines, whether for home signal distribution or sending a broadcast signal are evil power wasting menaces. Unbalanced radiators (your cat5 cable for example) are also great RF noise generators as well. Nature love symmetry, so does your equipment.

Another excellent radio geek article explaining what baluns do...
