NBC offers free downloads!

NYT: NBC to Offer a Free Video Download Service

NBC Universal, acknowledging that viewers are increasingly moving away from traditional television viewing, announced plans today for a service that will make popular NBC programs available to download free to personal computers and other devices.
The programs, including “Heroes” and “The Tonight Show With
Jay Leno,” will be offered for a week immediately after their initial broadcasts. Commercials will be embedded in the programs and viewers will not be able to skip through them.
The move comes less than three weeks after NBC Universal announced it was severing ties with
Apple Inc. after a dispute over how Apple was selling NBC programs on its popular iTunes service.

Wow.

Just, wow.

When I was mocking NBC earlier this month for dumping iTunes and striking out on their own, I totally didn't see this coming.

Score 1 for NBC. Maybe you can teach an old dog some new tricks!

Dang!

Did the world just tilt?

It's a "Brave" and "New" one indeed!

I can see people sitting in front of computers for hours at the local public library - not downloading porn.

Is this the new "peasant vision"?

You might not have seen it coming, but I sure did! http://marketnewsblog.blogspot.com/2007/08/nbc-universal-says-no-to-itunes.html :)

P.S. I have learned the art of "shameless self-promotion" from the king in this department :)

wow.. I really need to take my words back. This is pretty exciting news. I wonder how this will affect the sales of DVD sets for the following seasons. I guess we'll find out...
