CEDIA Expo Diary: Day Four

One of the things that you can expect at CE events is hype, hyperbole, and outrageous claims. In some cases, even short-sighted pronouncements.

I attended a dealer training session yesterday from audio company DTS to explain their new audio format, DTS-HD Master Audio that is designed to provide the surround soundtrack for Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies.

The presenter from DTS was a young, enthusiastic senior manager with "techie" written all over him (I presume he took off his propeller cap for the presentation). To his credit, he was absolutely brimming over with enthusiasm for his product.

Call me cynical, but when he gleefully announced "DTS-HD Master Audio delivers sound quality that is as good as it is ever going to get!" It was all I could do not to throw my pen at him and yell "You mean until NEXT YEAR!"

The boys at Dolby must be there with buffed up resumes in hand.
