East meets West: Pizza Pizza buys Pizza 73 for $70 million

Hey, I got a hat trick here: I'm covering Candian business, local Edmonton news, and pizza, sweet pizza all in one post!

Pizza Pizza sinks teeth into Western expansion, buys Pizza 73 stores
The Pizza Pizza acquisition, carrying a pricetag of $70.3 million, will give the Pizza Pizza Royalty Income Fund (TSX:PZA.UN) the "intellectual property" of Pizza 73 and its 48-restaurant system, and a nine per cent royalty on sales.
"It's been a challenge in Canada to find a good growth story in our pizza QSR industry, so we've been very patient in searching for a well-managed company," chief financial officer Curt Feltner said in a phone interview.

Having lived both here and in Toronto, I would be hard pressed to say which ad jingle was more annoying: "9-6-7-11-11! Call Pizza Pizza RIGHT AWAY!" or "Pizza 73, the pizza's ON!"

Here's Pizza Pizza's chart.
