At the bottom of the ZD Net piece about Sony and Wal-mart was an interesting tidbit:
Though Apple has eaten up most of the market for portable audio, Sony says it will relaunch the Walkman brand in the fall. Sony will tweak its home audio products so that there will be better interoperability between portable and home products. "It's not going to damage Apple's market share," Glasgow admitted, but he said Bluetooth capability will be featured heavily on the products.

Is there any hope that they will revive the Sony Sports brand too?

I guess the fact that they're having to re-launch or "bring back" the Walkman brand means that the Network Walkman MP3 players they've been selling for the past few years must not have even made a dent in the public's mind. Too bad, as some of them are actually really nice little devices (the ones after they added MP3 compatibility, of course). Better audio output and battery life than any iPod.
Unfortunately Sony doesn't quite get the hardware/software synergy like Apple does, and the SonicStage/Connect software provided is still a joke when compared to iTunes.
