I'm sure that this comes as a terrible shock to all of you.
Yahoo!: Report: Pro wrestlers linked to nationwide steroids inquiry
Eleven professional wrestlers, including the WWE's Randy Orton, have joined the list of athletes linked to a nationwide steroids investigation.
SI.com reported Monday that Orton allegedly received eight prescriptions for six different drugs -- including stanozolol, nandrolone and testosterone -- between March 2004 and August 2004. According to the documents SI.com reviewed, two doctors whose names also appear in Gary Matthews Jr.'s file, wrote prescriptions for Orton.
Orton, through the WWE, declined comment, SI.com said.
In its review of documents, SI.com reported it found Adam Copeland, a.k.a. Edge, and Shane Helms, a.k.a. The Hurricane, received HGH from Applied Pharmacy in Mobile, Ala., one of the pharmacies raided in the investigation led by Albany, N.Y., District Attorney David Soares.
Through the WWE, Copeland and Helms didn't respond to a request for comment, SI.com said.
WWE spokesman Gary Davis told SI.com that WWE policy prohibits performance-enhancing drugs but would not say whether any wrestlers have tested positive since the policy was enacted.
A statement release Monday night by WWE said the allegations reported by SI.com occurred before the organization implemented its "Talent Wellness Program," which deems "prescriptions obtained over the Internet and/or from suppliers of prescription drugs from the Internet are not considered to have been given for a legitimate medical purpose."
Also linked to the scandal, in various reports, are baseball's Jose Canseco, John Rocker, Jerry Hairston Jr. and David Bell, former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, Pittsburgh Steelers doctor Richard Rydze, 1996 Olympic wrestling gold medalist Kurt Angle and bodybuilder Victor Martinez.
The Good News: apparently the NFL is in the clear. 280lb linemen with <15% bodyfat who run a 4.0 40-yard dash apparently grow on trees. (That was sarcasm)
The Bad News: going forward, it looks like many of the world records in pro wrestling will have an (*) asterisk placed beside them. (That was also sarcasm)

Seems to me that investigating WWE personalities looking for steroid abuse would be like investigating the Great Lakes looking for water.
It's not a scandal if everybody already knows what's what. What is scandalous is the continued hue and cry from sports media, franchise owners and other professional sports hacks lamenting the state of affairs they find themselves in. Nobody wanted to say the "emperor has no clothes" when the gravy train was running at full speed. Now the two fastest growing "sports" in North America are NASCAR and Texas No Limit Hold 'Em Poker. In the first case people - especially youngsters - are finding it easier to bond emotionally with the cars than with supposed "sports heroes". And in the latter case steroids are of absolutely no use - as is any pretense of a moral character or lifestyle - so much easier to maintain a consistent marketing image that way.
Then there's the schizophrenic reality that almost every family with kids in North America is involved in soccer and still no one cares at all about the World Cup. Go figure?!?
If traditional sports ain't nearly dead it's approaching zombification (is that a word? it should be).
I say let 'em play on drugs legally. The pharmaceutical conglomerates have almost more money than God. They can pay to have their logo tattooed onto the top athletes (guinea pigs) of the day and maybe if we aren't having to support their astronomical salaries we might be able to afford to go to a game once in a while.
Next up from Disney productions:
Pumped Up and Sport Goofy.
'Nuff said!
