MarketNews: Text Messaging Triples in 2006
According to the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA), Canadians sent 4.3 billion text messages in 2006, nearly triple the amount sent in 2005. Volumes peaked in December 2006 at more than 560 million, representing more than 18 million text messages sent per day.
Fascinating, certainly, but the most important factoid in the article is here:
At the end of 2006, there were 18.5 million Canadian wireless phone subscribers, representing a national wireless penetration rate of approximately 58 per cent. Recent CWTA research estimates wireless penetration in major urban centres has exceeded 70 per cent, with some greater metropolitan areas approaching the 80 per cent mark.”
Welcome to the wireless future!
