Market News: Canadians Abandon a Billion-Plus PixA poll conducted for 3M Canada's Post-it Picture found that
more than a billion digital photos snapped and stored by Canadians are never
printed. Post-it Picture cites the Photo Marketing Association International as
reporting that there are currently 1,040,215,834 unprinted digital photos
sitting idle on Canadians’ PCs, digital cameras, cell phones, and PDAs,
representing 30.5 unprinted digital image for every Canadian.
"The point
of photography is to allow us to go back in time and revisit memories, but the
tragedy of digital photography is that many great shots are never seen again,"
said Cathy Bidini, a professional photographer and educator at Guelph-Humber
University. "When it comes to digital photography, there's no point getting it
if you end up forgetting it."
They key issue here is of course that Canadians are not getting maximum enjoyment out of their digital lifestyle. The fact that companies such as IBM, HP, Lexmark, and many others could sell *that* much more in the way of paper, printer cartridges, and assorted bric a brac is only a secondary casualty of this tragedy.
In case you don't think I'm taking this grave state of affairs seriously, I consulted with an expert in crisis management. Here's what he had to say:
"OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
